  18. Be thankful that black dot is there. It's telling you that you have 
  19. something in that layer. If you can't see it, you have (perhgaps 
  20. inadvertatnly) hidden it using the Hide commands in the display menu. 
  21. Hidden items will not be affected by modifications, but they are a part 
  22. of the object and will be saved when you save that layer.
